Color Theory Diagram

taylorchalley

The diagram I created shows the relationship between primary, secondary, and tertiary colors through the different shapes of the buildings. The largest buildings are the primary colors, the second largest buildings represent secondary colors and finally the smaller buildings represent tertiary colors.

The photographs of color are represented as the drop shadow of each building. This shows the correlation between the color of the building and the color within the image I took. Each image I chose has a bunch of texture so it stands out as the image with no confusion.

I show saturation with the images I took. I used a gradient that adds gray over time showing the colors desaturate. In addition, I show color temperature by having the buildings go from a warm temperature to a cool temperature across the diagram I created. Finally, I show contrasting colors in the "sky" of my diagram. The stars show the colors that contrast each other.

The section in the Diagram chapter that inspired me was page 218 discussing overlapping relationships. I wanted to be able to use my design to show multiple different concepts at once. To do this I used varying sizes and shapes to differentiate categories.

I believe this design uses typography well. I made sure to have the text easy to read and added a background text if it wasn't easily visible at times. The text I chose is easy to read and consistent across my entire diagram. In some places I was running out of space so the words are a little smaller than I would have liked.
