Why did you choose this typeface to copy as vector drawings? What attracted you to it?
I really love how bold and clear this typeface is. I was attracted to its clarity because I have never really liked fonts that are difficult to read or very bust. The only other font I considered was sample 04 because I liked the way it looked but the letters were too long.
What was challenging about using the pen tool and accompanying tools to redraw this font in Illustrator?
The hardest part for me was lining up the curves. I felt that the straight areas were fairly easy but curves took me a lot longer to master.
Who was your favorite designer interviewed in the film Helvetica? Explain what you learned from him or her.
I really liked Massimo Vignelli because he enjoys simplicity as much as I do. He discussed how he only really uses the same 3 fonts and I am the same way. I enjoy using fonts that I am familiar with and know will look good.
Think back over our previous readings on Rhythm & Balance, Hierarchy, Scale, Texture, Framing, and Point, Line, Plane. How are one or more of these principles relevant to the design of type?
This font has a very consistent scale as all the letters are the same height. Also, this text uses balance as some of the letters are symmetrical.
